Hayuliang faces threat from mighty Lohit

ITANAGAR, Oct 19: Hayuliang the oldest town of Anjaw district is on the verge of destruction due to massive soil erosion caused by Lohit River. With each passing year the mighty Lohit River is causing large scale erosion which is threatening the very existence of Hayuliang town.
According to the local residents, problem started in 2004 when flood water of Lohit River washed away portions of highway and started soil erosion. “Though there is massive erosion going on, state government is not doing anything to save Hayuliang town. They seem least bothered about safety of the local residents. Only BRTF which maintains this section of road is trying hard to control the erosion,” told one local resident.
He further added, “We fear that if urgent step is not taken to control the erosion, Hayuliang town will go under Lohit River in near future.
AAPSU concerned at attack of students, welcomes new VC
ITANAGAR, Oct 19: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has expressed deep concern over report that Arunachalee students have been beaten up at Gulbarga in Karnataka. “In the last few months Arunachalee students have been attacked in many cities. Such development is cause of worry for the AAPSU. State government should collect data of all Arunachalee students studying in various states and interact with their counterpart for security of those Arunachalee students,” stated its president Takam Tatung.

2 cars stolen in Aalo recovered in Assam

RUKSIN, Oct 19: Two Bolero cars that were stolen from Aalo in West Siang of Arunachal were recovered by Dhemaji police in Assam on October 17 last. However the police is yet to make any arrests.

‘No to extension of old Ziro Landing ground’

Bandh, violence and Arunachal
Dear Editor,
It’s just to share few of my feelings with the brothers and sisters of my beautiful state called Arunachal Pradesh once known to be the one of the most peaceful states in the northeast is now in turmoil and have seen violence and bandh cultures in recent days. It’s no more a stable state.
The recent events that led to a chaos were due to lack of maturity of associations. It seems like a story of a man who had been mortified by outsider and the man goes back home and torture his own family members just because he was mortified by outsider. Dignity is signified by the act of matured steps.
In my own opinion all the events are just a politically enhanced gamble where the innocents are suffering.
So next time before we go for any act that can disturb the peace, harmony, unity, love and development of our state, think thousand times.
One has to realize whether we are involving in any fruitful activities or is just a knight that dies while the kings and queens enjoy.

Adding more worries to the people of Arunachal, who are already traumatized by the recent chaos in the capital complex, an incident happened with some students of the state pursuing bachelor of engineering in P.D.A. College, Gulbarga, a city located at the northernmost part of Karnataka, on Oct 17. Eight Arunachalee students were severely bruised without any valid reason. The incident took place within the college campus, during the class hours, where they were physically assaulted by some hooligans who are said to be local students of the same college. When enquired, the assault was found to be a consequence of a row between an Arunachalee and a local student, as the later was trying to get something stealthily from the formers room, a night before the fateful day. The matter was informed to the hostel warden and the head of the department, but so far no action has been meted out to the hooligans for carrying out such a grievous bodily harm to the innocents. To make the matter worse, even the police did not intervene and punish the culprits; rather they are clinging on compromising both the parties. If the necessary steps are not taken by the concerned authority, either by the college or the law keepers, I perceive that similar or even worse situation may take place in the future. So I urge the concerned department of our state to shoulder the case and find an amicable solution. It will be better if the medical expenses are compensated, if not fully, at least to some extent, after assessing the details of the injured.
At last! The penultimate question arises here is why there is no any engineering or medical colleges in our state when they are flourishing in other states? It’s a shame for the education department in particular and the state as a whole. Therefore I earnestly request my fellow Arunachalees to raise voice for such a noble cause.

Dear Editor,
During my school days our social science teacher taught us about the Indus valley civilization and ruins of Mohenjo daro. I was made aware that the civilization was very well set with proper civic amenities and utilities; there used to have proper water supply, irrigation cannels, drainages. The civilization has left a legacy and even after thousands of years its glory persists.
A few days back I happened to go to Guwahati as a relative of mine was referred from
RKM hospital for further treatment. I had come to Guwahati after five years 4 months
precise. It was really astonishing and my jaws hung low while I struggled to find
the location of the hospital. I used to be quite familiar with the city 5 years back
but now the city had changed. Fly-
I feel that something is really wrong with this state, our land of rising sun, but where the sun never shines. If you allow me, I would like to share some things that I go through daily if you think nothing’s wrong. I get up in the morning; find the water tank empty because the water pipelines have dried. I somehow manage some water and try to make myself look fresh with that little water. I look and feel dull because I could not sleep well since there was no electricity the previous night and the heat of July kept me awake. I wonder how come there is no sufficient water in the capital of Arunachal Pradesh when there are so many perennial streams filled with fresh and clean water and only a very little populace to feed.
Then I ask my wife or maid for tea and breakfast in the morning. They report that the LPG cylinders are about to exhaust and there will be no gas to cook lunch. I am quite sure that you might all have experienced how torturing it is to get LPG. I know some small non tribal kids getting employed due to the gas shortage. Job is simple, stand in the queue for 5 hours at stretch and get paid Rs. 50.
Anyways then, I pick up the Newspaper, I find another member of some militant organization caught, somebody killed someone, bandh call, Price hike of diesel and petrol again.
A very bad way of starting a day indeed, hearing all sorts of bad news but yes, but it is normal because it is all the same daily and I am used to it. I am told by a journalist that usually bad news sells more than the good ones. Thanks to the last page usually and always showing big dreams after getting up from my bed; bumper bumper bumper housie which I think is the only pleasing thing that happens in the morning and that makes us cheerful and fills with some hope that AAL iz Well, at least for some minutes. I sometimes feel that the News Papers in Arunachal should name the last page as the bumper page itself and name a column “Bandh calls classified”.
Oh! I remember, my car’s fuel gauge showed Red in the evening. I have this good habit
to keep my little savings in the bank only because in Itanagar you never know when
the bad guys will check-

Then I dress up for office and try to make myself very fresh and dashing, put on extra deo and perfume as I could not bath because of insufficient water supply. I know most of you have a/c in your car, but I move on without the a/c on, because I know that the fuel prices have hiked. It becomes intolerably hot in summer as I slowly try to wade through the traffic and find ways within the road escaping the potholes. But my determination does not budge a bit and I don’t put on my cars a/c because I know that it can burn a hole in my pocket and the month’s budget also gets disturbed. Thanks to roads of the capital complex that provides such a good workout for our ever busy common man by relaxing the extra cost of sauna belts and workout machines. If I were a Doctor I would have advised the people with high Blood Pressure not to drive on capital roads, it may be last the last drive.
You might be thinking that I am complaining too much, and expressions herein are quite exaggerated. Yes, I am exaggerating because I know whatever I am writing is nothing but an outburst and for some this is too long and half of the readers would not reach this word. I need to stop here, yes I have to. But I can’t stop complaining.

Arunachal and discrimination
Dear Editor,
I'm really sorry to know that our Arunachalee students were attacked by the local people in Karnataka. I, as an Arunachalee student can understand the discrimination happening in the college. We are being discriminated not only by the students but by the lecturers as well. Some lecturers use abusive words with the northeast students. I had had an argument in the class with the students and lecturer when one of the local girls declared A.P to be a part of China. But then every individual has some physical and intellectual limitations.
Let’s join hands dear Arunachalee students. We have our own rights to fight against the discrimination. Let’s do it so that this kind of incident may not occur in the future. Only if we could end the discrimination and domination from others, we can study anywhere without any disturbance.

Malaria vaccine raises hope
Around 225 million people suffer from malaria each year resulting in 800,000 deaths
globally. Infants given the prototype vaccine had about half the risk of getting
malaria compared with those who did not receive the jab, say researchers. The vaccine,

Global health experts say the vaccine is less effective than others against common infections like polio and measles, and it is not yet clear how much it will cost.
Each year, about 225 million people get malaria, with about 800,000 deaths, mainly in African children.
The World Health Organization said that there had been remarkable recent progress to combat the disease, with a nearly 20 per cent fall in the number of deaths worldwide in the past 10 years.
